Every time I read this I spend a few moments trying to wrap my brain around the concept

It certainly isn't a concept that most people today (or probably ever) would apply to anything in their life.

Really makes you wonder, "Why?" Maybe because it is a new idea to them. People tend to ignore new ideas or accuse the messenger of betraying 'truth.'

Usually a free offer is rejected, due to the sketisism in North America. Some people want to earn their joy so they can say they have been the authors of it.

Once, I was at a mall giving away coupons for free security systems for the company I worked for. It was a promo. A lot of people did not want them nor did they even look at me.

Then I got out an 8 foot putting green and putter and told people to try to get a hole in one. If they did they'd win a free security system. All of a sudden a lot of people wanted to get a shot at it.

I thought that was so interesting and have never forgotten that. Promises can be looked at in the same way. people just want to do something to say they had something to do with attain their joy. "I just bought a new car" "I just won a lottery" "I just bought a new house"
