Officials from Camp AuSable are planning to locate an operation aimed at giving cars and trucks a new life on camp property.

Camp AuSable managers are requesting a special use permit from the Grayling Township Planning Commission.

Camp AuSable is seeking to transfer an auto dealership license from an operation currently located in Cedar Lake to Camp AuSable. The dealership is for the Great Lakes Donation Center, an organization for the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which accepts used cars which can be repaired and sold. Proceeds from the sale of the vehicles go into the fund for the Seventh Day Adventist Conference, which is based in Lansing, and go to pay salaries of the pastor, church staff, as well as to support the other needs of the church.

Donated cars will temporarily be stored at the camp until they can be repaired and sold through an auto auction.

Camp AuSable was established by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1948 and covers over 900 acres. The cars will be stored on the southern half of the property and will not be visible from M-72.
