Club Adventist
Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

The Israelites said to them, "If only we had died by the Lord's hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat (flesh pots, KJV) and ate all the food (bread, KJV) we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death. Exodus 16:3

The flesh pot was an Egyptian 3-legged cooking vessel made of bronze.

The ancient Egyptians were fond of eating meat. The main types eaten were beef and goose and fish which were found in abundance in the Nile River.

Cows were sacred and were not eaten, but the oxen were.

The Israelites' complaint against Moses, however, was a foolish exaggeration. Egyptian slaves did not sit around flesh pots and eat all the food they wanted. Meat was not even a customary part of the common people's diet.

It is also doubtful that they wished they had died by the Lord's hand when the destroying angel passed over Egypt.

When in the wilderness the former slaves often acted like whiny children rather than God's people who were headed to the Promised Land.

Just one more parallel between the literal Children of Israel and the their Spiritual descendents of today. I'm sure not every member of the COI murmured, whined, and complained to Moses, just as not every member of the spiritual COI does today.

I'm equally sure that those who didn't whine and complain about it were in the minority, just as they often are today. The difference is we don't complain and whine as publically at a single physical leader.

When I first began writing down my prayers, I was shocked at how often I "whined" at Abba, or demanded He do certain things, or answer my prayers a certain way, or where I actually tried to emotionally blackmail Him into doing what I wanted Him to do.

It took a friend saying, literally, "I'm sorry Clio. I can't unite my faith with yours and pray that prayer. Abba isn't going to be able to honor it. But here, let me teach you how to pray in ways Abba can honor."

Man! What a difference in how I came to view Abba and in my prayer life, and in the answers to my prayers!

Writing down your prayers, like in a journal- how enlightening!

I do keep a prayer journal. I write the prayers, I write lists of requests and who I'm praying for... and as I receive answers... I write those in as well.

That way, when I'm discouraged, I can see He is indeed faithful, never-changing, and honors and responds to prayers of His children. Me in particular....
