We need not go to heathen lands, or even leave the narrow circle of the home, if it is there that our duty lies, in order to work for Christ. We can do this in the home circle, in the church, among those with whom we associate, and with whom we do business. Which is easier? To talk to strangers, or to those we know? To speak to casual friends, or to sit down with a family member? Sometimes God needs us to work in an area which may be appear to be the hardest for us -- to have to lovingly, but firmly confront someone very close and dear to you about something in their lives that needs to be changed. The right words can be a catalyst for change, whereas the wrong words can be a catalyst for trouble! God doesn't always ask us to do what is the easiest, but He DOES promise us that He will be with us. God bless, Beryl

Ministry involves more than evangelism, too. If the thought of going out and knocking on doors intimidates you, remember that you are witnessing with your life and your lifestyle. Everyone is needed and valuable! God doesn't always ask us to do what is the easiest, but He DOES promise us that He will be with us. Amen!

Very true, Gail. It is easy to forget that the witness at home has an effect on spouse, children, and relatives and friends who visit. Sometimes it is easier to put on a happy, smiling face for strangers than for the loved ones at home! And yet, it is so important that the ones at home see and feel the love of Jesus shining through the lives of the parents.

The greater part of our Saviour's life on earth was spent in patient toil in the carpenter's shop at Nazareth. Ministering angels attended the Lord of life as He walked side by side with peasants and labourers, unrecognised and unhonoured. He was as faithfully fulfilling His mission while working at his humble trade as when He healed the sick or walked upon the storm-tossed waves of Galilee. So in the humblest duties and lowliest positions of life, we may walk and work with Jesus. Just think of the privilege the people of Nazareth had -- working, walking, talking with the King of Glory -- and not knowing it! Wonder what they REALLY thought of Him -- "nice enough chap", "Pity He won't lighten up and take a bigger part in our festivities." "Yea, bit straight-laced for my liking." How do I, as an individual, witness to others of our loyalty to Him? God bless Beryl

I am going to leave the remainder of Chapter 9, "The Work and the Life", as it appears that there is no more interest in this. However, I plan to skip quickly through the remainder of the book, because I am aware that there may be some who frequent here, but do not post. That is fine. You are welcome!
God bless,
Beryl

Well, I have just decided that I will stick with finishing this chapter. I just went in to the forum listing, and noted that there have been 1215 viewings of this work thus far! So, God bless those who are at least reading along with me -- and I will finish going through this chapter before taking the next chapter.
God bless,
Beryl

The apostle says, "Let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God." 1 Corinthians 7:24. The businessman may conduct his business in a way that will glorify his Master because of his fidelity. If he is a true follower of Christ he will carry his religion into everything that is done and reveal to men the spirit of Christ. The mechanic may be a diligent and faithful representative of Him who toiled in the lowly walks of life among the hills of Galilee. Everyone who names the name of Christ should so work that others, by seeing his good works, may be led to glorify their Creator and Redeemer." Wow! What a challenge!! That means that, even if we are down scrubbing floors, or cleaning out the horse stalls -- we would do the job with the same cheerfulness and attention to details that Christ would have done! Even if we are doing the most boring job -- entering data after data on a computer! -- we will give it our best, with a cheery word for all around us! (Even if I seem to be talking to myself, I will do it as to the Lord) God bless, Beryl

Many have excused themselves from rendering their gifts to the service of Christ because others were possessed of superior endowments and advantages. The opinion has prevailed that only those who are especially talented are required to consecrate their abilities to the service of God. It has come to be understood by many that talents are given to only a certain favoured class to the exclusion of others who of course are not called upon to share in the toils or the rewards. But it is not so represented in the parable. When the master of the house called his servants, he gave to every man his work. We ALL have at least ONE talent! It may be only the ability to smile a welcoming smile to that stranger at church. If so, use it! You may just get up the courage to add "Hullo! Welcome." But at least you can smile! Try out your talent today! Beryl

Thank you, Annie, for your reply. It is good to have some company! We are just getting ready for our Easter Campmeeting here, and things are a bit rushed at the moment, but I will be back shortly!
God bless,
Beryl
