For those of you who are wondering why you cannot receive 3ABN on your Dish Network it may be that you you do not have the second dish antenna which will pick up that particular satellite. It is found at Channel 9710... Contact your Dish Network for further information. No, Hope channel is not featured. Regards, Don

Most DISH subscribers are not pointed at either 61.5 or 129 which are the satellites that 3ABN is on. Yet it is available, free of charge, to those that have DISH programming. An additional dish can be installed and a cable run to a switch (outside) which connects the two dishes and from the switch they run to the receiver inside so no additional inside wiring needs to be added. Once hooked up one can switch back and forth easily.

Now that we know SkyAngel is shutting down its satellite service we can really see the providence of God in what happened with their transponder failing and 3ABN going off SkyAngel.

Here is the situation. SkyAngel is allowed to use one of DISH's satellites in exchange for letting DISH use its FCC license for additional transponders. (That means DISH can broadcast more channels) However there was also a no-competition clause in the agreement which stated that DISH could not carry religious channels. That way they couldn't compete with SkyAngel. After Sky Angel's transponder failed that they used to broadcast 3ABN, Sky Angel signed an agreement with 3ABN and DISH that released DISH from the no-competition clause in respect to 3ABN. That meant the DISH could carry 3ABN without being subject to litigation by SkyAngel.

So if the transponder 3ABN was on had not failed, they would have never been able to get on DISH Network and when Sky Angel goes off the air (expected within one year) 3ABN would have too. However, now, as God has worked things out, when Sky Angel goes off the air, 3ABN will still be on the same satellite and the same channel.

How great is our God!

I was just lucky, I guess. DISH advertised a couple years ago that subscribers could have installed free of charge a second dish that would pick up the local channels from the alternate satellite. Some time later they added the local channels to the original satellite so I still receive the benefits of the additional dish antenna though I no longer need it for local programming. I did hear the rumour that DISH was going to be offering the GMTN (Southern Gospel) in the near future. This is the reply I received on inquiry:"NOT ON DISH NETWORK. WE HAVE OUR OWN SATELLITE SYSTEM NOW WITH OVER 40 CHANNELS FOR ONLY $299.00 YOU CAN CALL THE TOLL FREE NUMBER FOR MORE INFO 866-425-1528." So it goes.........

GMTN is on AMC4 Ku band. Everyone with a "Hope/3ABN" dish should be able to pick it up by doing a satellite scan which scans for any new channels. We have had it now for about one month (the channel not the dish).

The dish they are talking about is avail from Glorystar for around $220 but the 40 channels is a little misleading because that number includes a lot of non-Enlish channels. Off hand I would guess there are between 15 and 20 English channels.

Shane: I still have issue with you on your above statement. Or did you cover yourself by the statement you made just following the above? Everyone who has a Hope/3ABN dish "and has the Glorystar Receiver" should be able.............etc. etc. I have not found that you can add channels to the Topsfield receiver which I did not purchase from AdventSat but directly from Hope Channel.

I wish I could be of more help. GMTN has the same kind of signal coming from the same satellite. So if someone can get 3ABN, Hope and LLBN they should be able to get GMTN too. I don't know anything about the Topsfield receiver but it should have a means to do a satellite scan. It would pick up about 12 foreign language channels on AMC4 too.
