A majority of Americans believe that gays and lesbians could not change their sexual orientation even if they wanted to, according to results of a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday.

It's the first time in a CNN poll the majority has held that belief regarding homosexuality.

Fifty-six percent of about 515 poll respondents said they do not believe sexual orientation can be changed. In 2001, 45 percent of those responding to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll held that belief. In 1998, according to a CNN/Time poll, the number was 36 percent.

Interesting...

It might be a good barometer (the poll) of how successful the gay agenda has been at swaying public opinion. Frankly, that is one of the reasons we don't have a television in our home.

Are you sensitive dear friends to the power of the television now, in swaying the opinion of the public? It’s absolutely frightening. And who is in charge of the television cameras, and what will be shown, and under what circumstances it will be shown, becomes actually the controlling factor in modern thought in the United States.

Well, the macro directions of society are set in such orders. So pervasive is its influence, that each of us has been substantially affected. And what are the driving concepts of postmodern thinking? To cite only a few, I’m sensitive that quite a number of you are aware of these: Every person is now crafting for himself the true reality in which he or she lives.
It does not come from outside, it is not something learned from outside, but the tools already reside within the person to work upon what factual material may be acquired. This means that there are no absolute, universal truths that apply to everyone. For them, reality is an individualized creation.

Since reality for each person is an internal construct (different in every person because no two are the same), the idea of one sovereign creator who defines right and wrong becomes untenable. On this basis we must be prepared to accept all other ideas and behaviors as equally correct. Enter the rise of homosexual behavior as an acceptable lifestyle in our culture. I would venture that we haven't seen everything yet.

But there is good news. God will judge the world in righteousness.

regards,

olger

Yes, it does highlight the need to get and promote Christian television and radio.

Television was also highly responsible for helping the civil rights movement in the US - that was a good thing. So not all of television is bad. However not all of Hollywood's causes are so noble.

Gay rights is a tough issue because the traditional American attitude has been to give gays a cold shoulder. That is not what Christ would have us do. Hollywood's philosophy is to encourage gays to embrace their perversion, and that is not what Christ would have us do either. Society turning from its old way of giving gays a cold shoulder is good but encouraging them to embrace their pervesrion is not. So it is a step forward but in the wrong direction.

Why don't we ask our gay friends what life is really like for them, and what their experiences have been?

And why don't we really listen to them - without jumping to conclusions or immediately sitting in judgement - and try to put ourselves in their shoes?

We might even learn something, and it is likely to be more reliable than these kinds of "polls".

We shouldn't be making them change anyway. It's not up to us is it? Do we make people change from God hating to God loving? Nope, that role belongs to the Holy Spirit.

I agree in general with your points, olger... I'm a fellow non-TV-consumer, for most of the same reasons.

But if your argument is that postmodern thinking is that each of us is infinitely mutable and constructs our own self and life, that seems not to fit with this apparent belief in the immutability of sexual orientation. If anyone is able to remake him- or herself at will, then what precludes an orientation change?

Rather, the notion that orientation is a fixed, unchangeable attribute of the individual seems to owe a lot more to a modernist view.

Without a supernatural power to change them, yes, it's true, they cannot of themselves change. But I believe the Good News is that God can.

I wonder what I could possibly learn from them? Whenever I hear one of them on TV or read what they have to say in the papers, they are trying to convince the world that perversion is perfectly normal, that those who condemn homosexuality from a Biblical standpoint are misguided.

We really should listen to them. Commuication means listening is done by all involved. And why should we ask them to change when we can't even change ourselves (do we have something to boast of?)
