My grandmother using a ringer washer out on the back porch of their house. It was an inclosed back porch that also doubled as my fathers bedroom. It didn't look all nice and pretty like in this pic.

1954 Precursor to the "Boombox"

Just add colored speckles to that linoleum and that is the floor I grew up with. ;\)

See on the sign where it says Syrup of Pepsin? My grandfather use to take pepsin tablets regularly. They were itty bitty little bits and they came in brown bottles @ about 100 per bottle. Boy, the things you remember when the brain is nudged.

It was alway exciting for a small boy to watch a train like this arrive and leave at a small town depot.

There used to be one of these depots in even very small villages.

Early 1900's Cross-Dressers

These 4 sisters moved in to the city to get work and all lived in a large house around the turn of the century. The 4 brothers still worked out at the farm, but would come into town every so often and stay with their sisters. Apparently, someone thought it would be fun for the fellows to exchange clothes with the sisters and have their picture taken -- WITHOUT the knowledge of their VERY strict Lutheran father.

There was even a story written about them in the town gossip newspaper....that there in the midst of town was a "House of Ill-Repute".....

Okay. Yes. These are my ancestors - Grandma is 1st row, 2nd from the right.
