The first principal that was violated was the principal of one man having one wife. David had 18 wives as recorded in scripture. I could become quite vocal in expressing my opinions about that fact......however, I will limit it to two observations: 1) With that many women at his disposal and under his responsibility to care for, why was he looking "over the fence?" Had he been properly doing his husbandly duties for those who were already "his", he wouldn't have had time to look elsewhere. 2) Was he so desentisized to the numbers of women who were legally his that he didn't consider looking at another woman to be wrong?
The second principal that was violated, in my opinion, was the fact that Bathsheba did not take precautions in regards to not being seen by the neighbors.
The third "principal" was that David didn't avert his eyes, but "lusted" when he did the "peeping tom" thing.....presumaeably in broad daylight.
The 4th principal was the fact that Uzziah did not go home to his wife when he had the opportunity, but instead camped at David's doorstep, presumably out of loyalty, however, the neglect of his wife perhaps led her to be vulnerable to another's advances.
I think that I didn't put these in their proper order......#1 should have been that Bathsheba's husband didn't go home when he should have, #2, Bathsheba did the exhibitionist thing while bathing......the others can go in whichever order.
Not that I think that Uzziah was responsible for his own death, but that he did bear responsibility for not taking care of his own family when he had the opportunity. I feel that men neglecting their wives has led to many problems within marriage...and to adultry and divorce and worse.
My 2 cents worth.
