Hey, I would like to encourage you to keep asking God that question. Something kinda weird I've realized from my own experiences in life: eventually, He does sometimes Answer those questions in real-life ways that teach us more about Him. It's true that death will be swallowed up in the end, but Answers can come in this lifetime. Sometimes it takes months or years, but He doesn't always leave us high and dry with tears in our eyes.
Heart-breaking things have happened in my life in the past, I didn't know why, I knew God had something to do with at least allowing those things to take place... I thought He was mean for letting those things happened. But eventually, He showed me why it was so important that some of those things happened.
One question I'd like to ask you to consider: is death (the first death) always a bad thing? Is it something to be feared? Is the life of one person so tied into everyone else's lives that others can't go on without that person? And if not, then what are we all here for? My personal answer to the last question is that we all have a measure of God's Spirit within us, we all live out a part of Him in some way, and it's our choice to allow Him to live through us, to care for one another while we are still here.
But when we are gone, it's up to those who've known us to go through the grieving process, remember us with as much love as they've had for us, learn from what we've left behind, and take that knowledge and use it to better their own lives and the lives of others. I'm not saying that death is a good thing. I'm just asking if it has to be seen as a bad thing. I'm asking you to consider the idea that perhaps it's neutral and not to be feared at all costs. That maybe death is the natural end of certain choices made by people who followed their hearts, and that there can be no greater act of Living than that. This is a fantastic testimony! My father did NOT choose to die. It was NOT a great act of Living for me to decide to end his life. It was NOT some *natural event*....... It was NOT good. It was NOT neutral. Yes, God can turn such events to have redeeming qualities, but DEATH IS NOT OF GOD. And, incidentally, I do not "fear death at all costs." I realize, COG4E, that your comments were meant to be helpful. However, I am not in the mood to read the stereotypical religious bromides that come rising to the surface when someone dies.

pkrause Your welcome. It was very similar in my own experience. I'm sure it has something to do with God speaking to us just at the time we need it, or possibly at the time He wishes us to give another the Word of encouragement and maybe even both. LHC, that *is* a good text. Thanks. I haven't mentioned something about my dad's death - he *could* have had a full recovery. He had just taken the trash cans out to the curb for Monday morning pick-up. It was out by the street that he collapsed. It's a very busy street - one of the main thoroughfares in this part of town....cars passing along there very often, but it's only a 25 MPH speed zone. But you know what? Not one person - NO ONE - stopped to see if there was something wrong with the man lying face down in the grass by the curb. He was down for at least 10-15 minutes before one of the neighbors saw him. Sure, then 911 was called, and the paramedics got his heart going again and he could then breathe on his own after getting to the hospital, but the lapse of time beforehand had already caused irreversible brain damage. But nobody stopped to help.

Your first comment indicates that even in the worst of circumstances there are some of God's servants ready to give a helpful hand. More often than not, if you've met Jesus and know Him well enough, you will be able to tell more explicitely than anyone else. Whatever the case; "For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. Romans 8:28 NASB I know you miss your Dad, more so than the mother I miss that I never had the good fortune to know. But I also know that no burden the evil one can put upon me or you will eclipse the Light of Life, anymore than the cross could only be a meaningless symbol as some would have us believe. Keep looking up! Our Lord cometh for all those who await His return with fond expectation.
