Wow! I have tears in my eyes, that was such a blessing watching that......this shows how free we are in Christ when we are focused on Him, free, joyful, our relationship blossoms and blossoms.....then, distractions or maybe we ignorantly fall into something we shouldn't.....it really tells me how God keeps reaching out to us, never gives up on us, even though darkness keeps us away, and darkness trys to overcome us....the adversary trys really hard to keep us away from Jesus......but, He is there.....if we only reach out to Him.....He keeps encouraging us.....always there.....never giving up.....we are struggling trying to give ourselves to Him....then, He comes in right at the time we need Him....we are worn, tired, and fully surrender to Him, and we are victorious through Him, and once again, we are free and joyful in Him again....the loving relationship starts over....what a beautiful skit! Thanks for sharing that with us!

Wow, pretty impressive. Got me thinking of coming church Youth Days in Estonia, where we could play more drama maybe. Something that affects young people more than words only. Thanks for an idea, DrWhoCompanion! ; )

Indeed it was awesome and had me teary. Showing that Jesus is in a constant tug of war with our souls was so on target. Makes me wonder why our church is so against using skits/plays.

Amelia,
I didn't realize Adventist churches were against using skits.
My brother-in-law's church is a "celebration church." I understand they are different in worship. I believe they do skits.
This video make me bawl every time I see it. I just think about the song and really feel moved.

As a lifelong non-Christian, that skit actually showed me what JESUS DIED FOR!
This is the first time I've really understood. I prayed right after I watched it and dedicated my life to Christ.
Wow, in my thirty-plus years on earth, that's a statement I would NEVER have guessed I would I make!

I don't think the church is against skits and plays. They are done in SDA parochial schools and the Communications Dept of most SDA colleges/universities have Drama as part of the curricula base.

I'm happy for you, DrWhoCompanion. When did you see the video first time? It's impressing how a simple play can change lives, but that's the point, isn't it? That play above is like mini-gospel making the long story short: Jesus died for YOU and He loves YOU. I have never been really thinking of the church plays as a means of the Word or as a messenger of God.. (They were just something that binds youth to church activities..) So, I'm thankful to the author for postig his experience, and as I'm working with young people in our church, it's good to broaden my vision of gospel.

Impressive!!!! Makes me wish that I had done that when I was a drama director/actor with in the SDA church.. I think that this play shows how we feel when it comes to having God in our lives...It is a reflection of our view on our relationship with God...and it does it quite well... Our church, Amelia, is NOT against drama...but we don't have time for this...."non-sense"...there is a lot of work that goes into skits like this...and it takes some dedication on the part of the players....it is very rewarding when you do these type of plays and I can only say this- if you have the opertunity to do some skits, take the time to learn them and do them....it will help heal you in many ways that you can not imagine...and help you discover your own hurts and pains...some of which you have been burying for many years...

Yes, I could relate to the skit in many ways but I would have appreciated it more if it didn't bring in the "Disney" or world view that evil is represented by the color black. This concept continues to ingrain prejudice into our society's hearts. It is my understanding that Sin is represented in the Bible by the color Red of Crimson, not Black. Mia

I see your point, Mia. But if the skit is trying to reach unbelievers, how would they know that? I am pretty new and I wasn't aware of it.

I am sorry that so often the straining of the soup to avoid swallowing the gnat is looked for rather then the number of SOULS perishing. I guess I'm sensitive because I have loved ones lying in their graves overcome from the EVILS depicted in this skit. Just thought we were suppose to look for the greater good and since ONLY God is good shouldn't we allow for human expression that struggles with explaining GRACE?

I see your point, Mia. But if the skit is trying to reach unbelievers, how would they know that? I am pretty new and I wasn't aware of it. I love my friends of every race and I am sure it could be hard to see evil as always depicted as "black". However, I don't see my african friends as black. I see them as a beautiful shade of brown. I am so glad it was a blessing to you DrWhoCompanion! It spoke ot me too!

A short, powerful video like that can be worth millions of sermons. Daniel, John, and a few others in the Bible also watched video animations of the Last Days.
The hardliners may protest, but who knows what it may take for a sad, desperate person to see themselves being set free from the powerful entanglements of self-destruction.

The church is not against skits/plays. But there is a small group within the church who take certain EGW quotes out of context and condemn any kind of play-acting.

A few churches are, but I think I could safely say that the majority are quite happy with it.

I attended a nondenominational church recently as a visitor, with friends who are members. You all missed the... um... sultry dance a gal of about 12 or 13 did, in bare feet and a leotard. I was embarrassed. I'm pretty tolerant and felt it was out of place for a house of worship. If you've seen Flashdance, well, let's just say I was waiting on her to pull a string and get a bucketful of water on herself!

I never heard of dramas involving EGW as the theme. It would actually be rather interesting. It could be done with Ellen narrating the story....especially things that happened in her "early years" could be commented on by Ellen in her post-grandma years.

They do it on a regular basis at the Adventist Heritage Center in Battle Creek where Ellen White's old home is. I really enjoyed it. Also when I went to Elmshaven near PUC... they did it in a small way. The Battle Creek one was the best though.

There are recordings of EGW-type dramatizations. I don't remember the name of them. Keepers of the Flame is one of the older series of videos. I've seen some others since then.

Hm. Interesting. They ought to videotape the performances..
I wonder if they have. I just don't know. They give scholarships to select students at Andrews to do the tours and give small skits. The director there and the students all dress up in the original costumes and it is delightful. If anyone is near Battle Creek ... I highly recommend this stop. I believe it is mostly done during the summer. I am not sure of their winter schedule.

Many moons ago, PUC hosted a drama group called "Company One"...The director was Jim Pappas, and he has since taken his drama to the foothills of California.
There are several radio drama series out by him along with videos...Jim shines best in radio/theater productions...You might be interested in listening to Pilgrim Progress. Very well done.
When we [yes, I was a part of the group many years back] went to Yountville and to the theater [don't know if it is still around anymore] and put productions on for the community. Mary Song was very well recieved, Faces in the Shadows, Count the Stars, Six O'clock news were theater productions and were well recieved by the community. We took our acting to the road, and went to various churches and did skits, mimes and of course short plays to the churches of Lodi, Bakerfield, Mountain View Church, Loma Linda and many others. It was a lot of fun.
So much so, that my family did drama in Boise Idaho for a couple of years using members of the community. It was also fun for a while...and we used skits like For One Alone, Sunny the Soup Sipper, and John 9. We were well recieved there as well.
Our technique was a Reader's Theater, and we modified it. We used no costumes, but rather plain non-attracting dress. Nothing shining, or flashy was ever used in our costumes. We used the imagination, and it gave a much better customized picture of what we protrayed. As I have said, it was fun and most rewarding experience that I have had in evangelizm...

Sounds like a lot of fun! I have seen skits or plays that have been so powerful that it affected people in ways that no sermon could ever do. I have also heard sermons that affected people in ways no skit or play could do but drama well done with a distinct message can be very powerful!
