Memory Text: Hebrews 11:27 NRSV “By faith he left Egypt, unafraid of the king’s anger; for he persevered as though he saw him who is invisible.” Hebrews 11:27 The Clear Word for Kids “Moses was not afraid of the king, because he knew that God was walking by his side.”
Sunday, November 18 – Our Father’s Extravagance Romans 8:28-39 Holman “28 We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. 29 ¶ For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified. 31 ¶ What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He did not even spare His own Son, but offered Him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything? 33 Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the One who justifies. 34 Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, but even more, has been raised; He also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us. 35 Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: ‘Because of You we are being put to death all day long; ‘ ‘we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.’ 37 No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!” Romans 8:32 The Clear Word for Kids “If God loved us so much that He let Jesus come and die for us, won’t He also do all He can to get us to heaven?” Ellen White, Desire of Ages, p. 762 - “Christ, coming to the earth as man, lived a holy life, and developed a perfect character. These He offers as a free gift to all who will receive them. His life stands for the life of men. Thus they have remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. More than this, Christ imbues men with the attributes of God. He builds up the human character after the similitude of the divine character, a goodly fabric of spiritual strength and beauty.” Monday, November 19 – In the Name of Jesus John 14:14 NKJV “"If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:14 The Clear Word for Kids “So ask for whatever you need to complete your mission, and I’ll give it to you.” John 14:1-14 God’s Word to the Nations “1 ¶ "Don’t be troubled. Believe in God, and believe in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms. If that were not true, would I have told you that I’m going to prepare a place for you? 3 If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again. Then I will bring you into my presence so that you will be where I am. 4 ¶ You know the way to the place where I am going." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don’t know where you’re going. So how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me. 7 If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him through me and have seen him in me." 8 Philip said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us." 9 Jesus replied, "I have been with all of you for a long time. Don’t you know me yet, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I’m telling you doesn’t come from me. The Father, who lives in me, does what he wants. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of the things I do. 12 ¶ "I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the Father. 13 I will do anything you ask the Father in my name so that the Father will be given glory because of the Son. 14 If you ask me to do something, I will do it.”
Tuesday, November 20 - The Power of the Resurrection Ephesians 1:18-23 NIV “18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 1:19-21 The Clear Word for Kids “The tremendous power of God is available to all who believe. This is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him on the right hand of God. This puts Jesus above all rulers, authority, power, and titles that anyone has ever had.” Ephesians 1:19 COMMENTARY BY ALBERT BARNES The same power is requisite to convert a sinner which is demanded in raising the dead. Neither will be accomplished but by omnipotence.
Wednesday, November 21 – To Carry All Our Worry 1 Peter 5:7 NIV “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 The Clear Word for Kids “Leave all your worries with Him, for He cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7 COMMENTARY BY BARNES He is not like the gods worshipped by many of the heathen, who were supposed to be so exalted, and so distant, that they did not interest themselves in human affairs; but He condescends to regard the wants of the meanest of his creatures. It is one of the glorious attributes of the true God, that he can and will thus notice the wants of the mean as well as the mighty; and one of the richest of all consolations when we are afflicted, and are despised by the world, is the thought that we are not forgotten by our heavenly Father. Psalm 55:22 NRSV “Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Matthew 6:25-33 Holman “25 ¶ “This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky: they don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? 27 Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! 30 If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you—you of little faith? 31 So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” Matthew 6:25 COMMENTARY BY ADAM CLARKE Prudent care is never forbidden by our Lord, but only that anxious distracting solicitude, which, by dividing the mind, and drawing it different ways, renders it utterly incapable of attending to any solemn or important concern. To be anxiously careful concerning the means of subsistence is to lose all satisfaction and comfort in the things which God gives, and to act as a mere infidel. On the other hand, to rely so much upon providence as not to use the very powers and faculties with which the Divine Being has endowed us, is to tempt God. If we labour without placing our confidence in our labour, but expect all from the blessing of God, we obey his will, co-operate with his providence, set the springs of it a-going on our behalf, and thus imitate Christ and his followers by a sedate care and an industrious confidence.
Thursday, November 22 – Still Faithful Without Sight of God Isaiah 40:27-31 KJ21 “27 ¶ Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel: "My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God"? 28 Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of His understanding. 29 He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might He increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall; 31 but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 The Clear Word for Kids “But for those who wait on the Lord and ask for help, He will renew their strength. They will soar like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 COMMENTARY BY ADAM CLARKE It has been a common and popular opinion that the eagle lives and retains his vigour to a great age; and that, beyond the common lot of other birds, he moults in his old age, and renews his feathers, and with them his youth.
Friday, November 23 – Further Study Ellen White, Prophets and Kings, pp. 605-606 – “The decree that will finally go forth against the remnant people of God will be very similar to that issued by Ahasuerus against the Jews. Today the enemies of the true church see in the little company keeping the Sabbath commandment, a Mordecai at the gate. The reverence of God’s people for His law is a constant rebuke to those who have cast off the fear of the Lord and are trampling on His Sabbath. Satan will arouse indignation against the minority who refuse to accept popular customs and traditions. Men of position and reputation will join with the lawless and the vile to take counsel against the people of God. Wealth, genius, education, will combine to cover them with contempt. Persecuting rulers, ministers, and church members will conspire against them. With voice and pen, by boasts, threats, and ridicule, they will seek to overthrow their faith. By false representations and angry appeals, men will stir up the passions of the people. Not having a "Thus saith the Scriptures" to bring against the advocates of the Bible Sabbath, they will resort to oppressive enactments to supply the lack. To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for Sunday laws. But those who fear God, cannot accept an institution that violates a precept of the Decalogue. On this battlefield will be fought the last great conflict in the controversy between truth and error. And we are not left in doubt as to the issue. Today, as in the days of Esther and Mordecai, the Lord will vindicate His truth and His people.”
