A dialog is needed so we understand each other better and we can work together better. Many that are inclined toward theistic evolution do not understand why traditional creationists object to new ideas so much. Once they see how all the church doctrines are interwoven and interdependent upon each other they can respect the traditional position even if they continue to have doubts about it.

On the other hand, many traditional creationists do not understand the scientific box some members are in. Through dialog they can come to understand why some hold doubts about the Sola Scriptura understanding of Genesis and while they continue to disagree can appreciate the dissenting opinion.

The Adventist church is not going away from Sola Scriptura in any foreseeable future. But that doesn't mean they don't want a dialog with dessentors or that they do not want to allow dessentors to worship with us. We don't all have to agree on every doctrine to be brothers and sisters in Christ.
