"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Cor.15:58
I love how Paul addresses his fellows as "beloved brethren"...
This is an admonition to keep ourselves busy, not in meddling in the lives of others with gossip or idle chitchat, but in the Lord's work. And we are advised to be steadfast and unmovable as far as well doing goes. This is not a work that ensures our place in heaven but practical, useful employment with our hands to the benefit of others.
It is so much easier to attend to our own needs. But Paul knew the value to our souls of attending to the aid of those who need it. There is much room in the Lord's work!
When we do this, we are promised that our efforts on His behalf will not be unnoticed or unappreciated. God promises that they will not be in vain- that even if they seem unfruitful on first glance, that they will do His bidding.
