Dr. Russell Standish Passes Away



We express our sorrow and sympathy for the family of Dr. Russell Standish, who was killed this morning, May 2 2008, in an automobile accident in Australia. This is very difficult time for Dr. Russell's family, as well Dr. Colin Standish and his family. Please remember them in your prayers. The ministry and person of Dr. Russell Standish will be greatly missed.

We will share more details as they become available.

Cliff Cocks, friend of Pastor Russell Standish, was also killed in the automobile accident. Please remember the Cocks family as well as the Standish family during this time of grief and sorrow

They are twins.

James Standish who works at the GC is the son of one of them.
Many years ago Dr Russell worked at the Adventist hospital in my home town (Warburton Victoria Australia).

How sad....I'll keep both families in prayer. They'll be greatly missed.

"Dr Russell Standish had caught a commercial flight from Melbourne on Friday afternoon and arrived at Mildura Airport around 4.20pm.
He was met there by 78 year old Irymple man Cliff Cocks. Mr Cocks was the driver of the car which cut across the path of a vehicle being driven north ......

I looked at that link, chilco, and am surprised at the photo. Is that really Russell Standish? If so, he has changed tremendously since I last saw him.

That is indeed a picture of Russell Standish. This picture would have been taken sometime within the last 2 years, or so.

I am just in receipt of the funeral details from Glenice Standish, Russ's widow. They are below.

Place: Lilydale Seventh-day Adventist Church (608 Hull Road, Lilydale, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia)
(Parking is available both at the church listed above as well as the Lilydale Baptist Church, directly opposite)

Due to unanticipated delays in the coronial investigation there may or may not be a burial to follow. We have decided to go ahead with the memorial service in any case out of consideration for international attendees.

I have received this report from the Mildura newspaper reporting events.

I hope they are able to go ahead with the burial today, the strain will be huge otherwise.

And I am surprised coronial is a uniquely downunder word.

Nan, the memorial service was carried out at 1:00pm on Friday, 9th of May. I flew from Brisbane to attend the service which was held at the Lilydale church. It was very well attended, showing how much respect many people have for Dr Standish.

Not sure when Dr Standish's body will be released however.

That his body was not released was the possiblity that would drag out these rites for his family. I was sure the service would have been well attended.
