Club Adventist

Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

According to Focus On The Family's "Plugged In" magazine, research at the University of Minnesota suggests the primary culprit of materialism isn't marketing but low self-esteem. Hmmm, does that raise some eyebrows? thinking

Materialism is one of the greatest problems in the church today. It is the sin that many dare not to talk about. In light of this research, how might we, as individuals or a church, go about treating materialism?

University of Minnesota, eh? Okay. Anyways... wasn’t King David, OT, like, ginormously

RICH!? He donated the equivalent of two and a half billion $s in yesterday’s $s from his personal funds to the construction of the Temple. I seem to recall that he also bequeathed the

mines of Ophir to his son Solomon. I’ve never heard it suggested that he had self-esteem issues..

Seems tah me, despite his several failings, that father Abraham was somewhat materially favoured, as well - and didn't seem tah have suffered overmuch for being materially well-off.

As well many others in Biblical telling seem tah have been materially blessed without ill effect - Joseph, for instance, yes? bwink

One doesn't have to be rich to be materialistic. Being materialistic and being rich are two separate things.

One usually follows the other, yes? otherwise, altruism enters the equation, I'd think. And, as Robert suggests,

one divests.
