Just one, really - a lot of those old rocks have fossils of living things in them. So it's not just the planet that appears old, but life on it. I've said 'appears', because I still agree it could easily be 6000 years old and made to appear older. But it again begs the question of way God would do that, when it clearly causes us so much confusion, and some to lose their faith.

Given the extent of Egyptian history we have, I think the Earth has to be more than 6,000 years old.

Rocks that appear old do have fossils in them however I have yet to understand how a rock that is believed to be 65 million years old can exist with a fossil in it when after 12 million years it should have all eroded away. If life existed on this planet 65 million years ago and it was buried by a flood, volcanic eruption or other type of natural disaster, its fossiled remains should have eroded away long before now.

You bring up some excellent points John. Possibly some or all of them were involved in motivating those folk in the early part of the nineteenth century in New England.
