Quote:
Hindu extremists are being blamed for the beheading of a Seventh-day Adventist pastor in Orissa, India late last week, local church leaders reported. Since then, at least 15 Adventists have been reported killed.

Samuel Naik, pastor of the Phulwani Adventist Church, and his mother were killed during anti-Christian violence sweeping the region of India, said Gordon Christo, communication director for the Adventist Church in Southern Asia.

Naik's wife committed suicide earlier this week after hearing of their deaths, Christo said. She had allegedly been raped during the attacks.

The outbreak came after unidentified attackers killed a Hindu religious leader and four other individuals. Hindus are blaming Christians for the deaths, while the Indian government cited Maoist rebels.

One Adventist school in Jeypore was attacked last Sunday, and another school in Khurda was closed for several days, Christo said.

"They broke the gate and all the glass doors and windows of the children's home, the cafeteria, the girls' hostel ... and a few staff quarters," said Arun Panda, principal of the Jeypore school.

Panda said the mob attempted to light several vehicles and some equipment on fire after pouring diesel on them, but nothing burned.

"We believe it is a miracle of God,"
Panda said.

Let me get this staight....

An Adventist Pastor is beheaded and his mother is killed. His wife is raped and commits suicide. 15 SDAs killed. But there is a miracle because some "equipment" was saved. Huh?

Can anyone explain about a God who would do that?

That's a tuffie....I can understand the comment 'in the moment', but reckon in the larger context, not very comforting.

Redwood, while God sat upon His throne during WW2, approximately 45,000,000 people died as a result of the actions of God fearing and godless men. Was it a miracle, that which ended the war was two bomb blasts extinguishing the lives of another 260,000 people? Does it make sense that Jesus, the King of Glory, should have hung on a cross, for the likes of us who claim to be His followers, who walk by multitudes who have hardly enough to hold body and soul together?
That which distinguishes Christians is faith to believe that God is still Love no matter how men who yoke themselves to the forces of darkness, choose to destroy Love's creation.

"A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." Psalm 91:7 KJV

Perhaps you need explanation about the thousand who died. And don't believe there was a miracle involved for the one who lived.

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 KJV

I think they are rightfully looking for anything positive in a very terrible ordeal.

One day this kind of thing that is happening in India will also happen here in America, but will affect many more than just a local church. Many will die for their faith, yet God will be in our midst performing miracles. Just because evil things happen and people are martyred doesn't mean God is not active.

A friend of mine who is not a Christian travels to India often. He tells me that he is not surprised at the reports he's read from me about these terrible killings. The wonder is they do not happen oftener. Truth is they probably do happen oftener but we just don't hear about all of them.

Thanks for that note, John317. We, often in our ease and convenience, find it easy to misunderstand those who don't react under severe circumstances the way we think they ought.
While I haven't looked it up yet, I was recommended a web page called, "Voice of the Martyrs". It would probably be a good one for any of us in our confines of safety, to look up to find what many see as the normal existence for living in this world.

Here's that web page.

To claim that God answered prayers to save some equipment while so many are being beheaded , killed and raped ... seems out of balance.

You are right, it is out of balance, which is what the definition of sin is all about!

Thanks CoAspen. Good comment. We are all out of balance with sin.

Diesel doesn't burn like gasoline. You can't light it. It only explodes under very high compression. That's why diesel cars and trucks have a different sound than gasoline powered vehicles do. No miracle, just basic shop class.
