CHURCH PLANTING CONFERENCE IN CROATIA...[TED Staff/TED News Staff/TED

Marusevec, Croatia - The third TED Church Planting Training seminar
for the Adriatic Union Conference, was held at the Adventist
Theological Seminary in Marusevec, 28-30 August. This event gathered
170 participants on Thursday and Friday, and about 800 on Sabbath.

The aim of the first Church Planting training event was to get on
board the decision makers and establish a common language for church
planting. The second event was an intensive training course for
pastors only; and this third and last training event this year aimed
to introduce Church leaders and other Church members to Church
Planting strategies, in the topics: The Biblical Mandate; Vision
Statement; Mission Statement; Values and Target Group; and
Identification.

Janos Kovacs-Biro, Evangelism Director of the Trans-European
Division, and lecturer at the event, said: "The Adriatic Union is
serious about growing new churches. They have long-term plans to
plant churches in the strategically important cities of their
countries. I am looking forward to see the church planting core
groups selected and commissioned for this task. I also pray that God
will give them openness, strengths and patience to experience the
great joy of leading people into a saving relationship with Christ."

INGATHERING TIME IS PARTY TIME!...[Gry A. Haugen/TED News Staff/TED

Vik, Norway - During the last couple of weeks, pupils and their
parents, teachers and church-members in the Adventist Church have
participated in the annual Ingathering, to support projects run by
the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Norway. This
year projects in South-East Asia will benefit from the funds
collected by these volunteers, and in particular to prevent human
trafficking, especially in Cambodia and Northern Thailand.

"In my opinion, the ingathering week is like a party!" exclaimed an
enthusiastic parent at Rosendal Adventist School. "Imagine starting a
new school year this way! What a message this conveys to our children
and our community."

Rosendal church school gathered NOK 57 000 (about GBP 5,500) the
first evening of their campaign, and the other church schools are not
far behind. Students and teachers at Tyrifjord Videregaaende Skole,
the Norwegian Adventist high school, have so far collected NOK
300 000 (about GBP 29 000), and they still have not finished. "Our
students just don't want to finish ingathering," says John Gamborg,
teacher and organiser. "Students wish to spend their spare time doing
ingathering in addition to the couple of days scheduled for this."

"The schools and churches are creating a good atmosphere connected to
the Ingathering", says Gry A. Haugen, ADRA Norway. "They make it an
event, serving dinner and supper, and driving for several miles.
These components leave our children with good memories, which I
believe is very important. We are indeed helping ourselves by helping
others."

Stephen Cooper, newly appointed ADRA Director in the Trans-European
Division, visited Norway during the Ingathering. He said: "While in
Norway, I had the opportunity to see the Ingathering programme in
full swing. I was impressed to see the enthusiasm and
dedication these school children had in collecting funds for those
who are less fortunate. ADRA Norway is a shining example of
how Ingathering can be done."

SECOND CAMP MEETING IN TIRANA...[Sylvain Romain/TED News Staff/TED

Tirana, Albania - On 5-7 September members of the Adventist church in
Albania, together with their friends, repeated the success of the
2007 camp, as they fellowshipped and worshipped together in the
natural park adjoining the capital Tirana.

This year, Janos Kovacs-Biro, Trans-European Division Evangelism
Director was the guest speaker at the camp. In his presentations he
offered guidelines and strategies for establishing a strong
foundation which will promote a solid church growth throughout the
country, - among existing church groups, but also in the planning of
starting new groups. The participants responded positively to this
challenge, and gave evidence to the further maturing of the Church in
Albania, returning home strongly motivated and with a renewed sense
of mission.

Pastor Kovacs-Biro offered to teach a course of practical training
next year, to further equip the Church members. In preparation for
this, the local pastoral team together with Pastor Sylvain Romain,
President of the Albanian Mission and initiator of the camp project,
were asked to make a SWOT analysis to evaluate the Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, to strengthen their strategic
planning. Pastor Romain reported that the pastoral team in the
Albanian Mission will also be working intensively on a continuous
educational programme which will meet the individual needs for
additional training.

PASSIONATE ABOUT HIGHER EDUCATION...[TED News Staff/TED News]

Binfield, England - With the new academic year well in progress at
Newbold College, Paul Clee, Trans-European Division Communication
Director, has been in contact with Dr Jane Sabes, the new Principal
at the College, for a comment on her new appointment and her visions
for the College.

With the knowledge that Dr Sabes had offers of other employment
positions, it was interesting to learn why she chose Newbold College.
Dr Sabes said, "Higher education has my heart! And, I am passionate
about Seventh-day Adventist youth having access to quality Christian
education that equips them to assume key positions in the family, for
our church, in government, and industry, and in society." And she
added, "The most persuasive element of this position came, however,
was when I learned that Newbold College is the only institution of
higher education serving 40 countries that constitute the
Trans-European Division. Just imagine the impact that Newbold
graduates can have, as change-agents in their homeland!"

And about her vision for the college, Dr Sabes said, "... we [must]
listen to the dreams of our youth, then design creative ways in which
Newbold College can most effectively assist these 'young scholars' to
realize their dreams. The support we render should not be restricted
solely to their pursuit of academics but also in the spiritual and
personal realms as well."

NEW ENDOWMENT FUNDS...[Helen Pearson/TED News]

Binfield, England - Two alumni families have established endowments
at Newbold College. The Denys and Jean Baildam fund was created in
loving memory of the long-time British pastor, Denys Baildam. Barbara
and Henry Abrahamian have also recognized the growing need to support
worthy Newbold students both academically and financially. They have
created the Beaven-Abrahamian Endowment Fund for that purpose.

Dr Jane Sabes, Principal of Newbold College, expressed joy over the
generosity of these families and the significant contributions these
endowments will make in educating students.

She said: "Having myself established endowments, I know the personal
satisfaction that comes from memorializing a loved one in this way -
whether it be at the time of their death or to recognize a
significant mile-stone in their lives such as retirement, an
anniversary, a birth, or a birthday. The Baildam and Abrahamian
families have done something of great significance, the results of
which will only fully be realized in the kingdom. For these acts of
thoughtful generosity, Newbold College thanks them."

Contributions to either of the above funds can be made through the
College Bursar, Berit Lisle.
