I remember hearing Jerry Dill and the rest of the Kings Heralds sing often at camp meeting in Colorado, which was held at Campion Academy. It wasn't until much later, though, that I came to know him personally. He was one of the pastors at the church where I served as a secretary for five years, and every contact with him was positive, from morning staff meetings to delicious meals at his home. His office was down the hall from mine, and often I would be treated to a solo vocal concert while he tried out various hymns to go with his Sabbath sermon.
Jerry Dill was the kind of person who said what he thought, and I appreciated that, though I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it may have gotten him in trouble from time to time. There was no hidden agenda with him. He baptized our daughter. Kids loved him, and any who shook his hand on Sabbath morning were likely to come away with a quarter tucked in their hand.
He was a fellow orchardist; he grew almonds while we grew Asian pears. At harvest time his teenaged daughters would brave the heat and join our picking/packing crew, and he often stayed and talked trees with us. I don't think any of us will ever forget the time he illustrated his sermon with a real tree, using a chain saw to chop off the branches. He was a unique individual and will be uniquely missed.

I always thought of Jerry Dill as being older than he was. But now I learned that he began singing with the King's Heralds when he was only 19 years old. So all that time he was really just a youngster compared with some of the others in the quartet.
Guess this leaves only Wayne Hooper as the only remaining living member of the "old" [not actually the "original"] King's Heralds quartet.

I went to school at La Sierra College in 1954 with Jerry Dill and Del Delker too. Both of them were mature wonderful christian people. Walt Larsen of Tehachapi Cal. www.geocities.com/wilderness64/7299.html
