Music in Bible times had an important place in the worship service, just as it does today

In the days of King David, the temple choir and orchestra were organised by David himself to sing and play joyful music.

David's Psalms became so popular that most Jews memorized them.

In the temple, the singing was often in parts, with one line being sung by one group and a response given by another. These choirs were composed of both men and women, Levites whose employment it was to fill the temple with joyful song.

Dancing, too, was often part of the people's joyful worship experience.

When the ark of the covenant was brought to Jerusalem, "David and all the people danced with all their might to honor God" 2 Sam.6:16
