Club Adventist
Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

Leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist church unanimously voted at an April 14 business meeting to put into action a plan to distribute globally 2 million books written by one of the church's founders, Ellen G. White. The project called, "Connecting With Jesus," was initially presented at Annual Council, the fall business meeting for the church's leaders.

"We need to get these beautiful messages ... into the hands of thousands of believers who do not have access to them," Ted Wilson, a vice president of the world church, told meeting attendees.

At Annual Council a document outlining the project said the need arises out of an apparent decline in readership of these volumes, despite a belief in their relevance to the church today.

Wilson stressed at the 2004 meeting that getting the ten books, a small cross section of White's writings, to believers was "crucial."

The books, which will include study guides, will be distributed over a five-year period and financed by the church's world headquarters, regional and local administrative offices around the world. The goal is for each Adventist family to have a set of the books. It was also suggested that each family who receives a set of these books would pay a fraction of the cost.

It is called 'buying a market'. It never works.
If people wanted the books, they would buy them.

I predict 99.9% of these books will end up unread in a trash heap, or as fire-lighting materials.

Ted is Neil's son, right? A bastion of the conservatives who were driving the denomination into the ground in the 1960/1970's and who really messed up over Ford and Rea.

Saying "EGW is important" is a social ritual amongst SDA. It is easier than telling the truth - that her writings are largely superseded by events and are proving to be a mixture of good and bad advice, good and bad theology, and visions that were very motivating at the time but lack long term relevance. We need to remember that she earnestly expected, and had visions she understood as meaning, Jesus would return BEFORE THE CIVIL WAR.

It is interesting to see them acknowlege the declining readership in a rapidly expanding church.

I wonder which books they have chosen.

Of course they could EASILY make the books available by simply putting their full text on-line and on non-copyright extremely cheap DVD's. But that, heaven help us, would not keep the White Estate and the printing presses busy.

Can anyone give ONE good reason why the entire set should not be available for $2 via DVD?

Well the price for the one I use is $6.00, it has all the ORIGINAL EGW books, plus 77 different pioneer authors and the KJV. But having the ORIGINAL books is best, the ones before mans "cut & paste" was applied. Better stock up now before the famine arrives, not the famine of bread & water, but the hearing of God's Word.
