INGATHERING TOTALS CLIMBING BINFIELD PARISH CHURCH DONATES £5,000 TO ADRA-UK FIRE DESTROYS HOME OF AUDREY BOYLE-ANDERSSON IN SWEDEN ASNA RESPITE AND TRAINING WEEKEND IN KIDDERMINSTER POLITICAL CANDIDATES TO BE INTERVIEWED ON PREMIER RADIO COMING EVENTS ----------------------------------------
INGATHERING TOTALS CLIMBING
The ADRA Annual Appeal has finished in most of the UK and there are just a couple of days left for those in London where collectors can still go door-to-door until Sunday evening. The latest report from the South England Conference office shows that a grand total of £59,415.75 has been sent in so far with the area totals as follows:
Area 1 - £865.87 Area 2 - £6,930.56 Area 3 - £2,056.66 Area 4 - £3,554.34 Area 5 - £7,058.21 Area 6A - £6,123.95 Area 6B - £6,122.77 Area 6C - £4,541.80 Area 6D - £3,110,17 Area 7 - £13,812.89 Area 8 - £5,238.53
The SEC office staff have collected £1,565.86 and the BUC office staff have collected £737.19.
For the North England Conference Pastor Roy Morgan reports that their total is now £65,321.47, approximately £8,000 up on the figure for this time last year. "We have had some very encouraging stories so far," he says. "Five churches have already passed their goals: Wilmslow, Kettering, Hull, Bradford, and Breath of Life. In the Preston church the pastor and Ingathering Agent are so enthusiastic that every member without exception is set a goal. In the Nottingham Central church I have heard of one member, brother Sam Nugent, is still going out collecting despite having a pacemaker fitted and suffering from poor health."
Although most of the collecting has now been done there is still a lot of accounting work to do. If you have still not returned your canisters to your local agent please do so as quickly as possible.
BINFIELD PARISH CHURCH DONATES £5,000 TO ADRA-UK
For many years now the Binfield Parish church of All Saints and St Marks has had an excellent relationship with Newbold College and the Newbold churches, particularly the Moor Close church which used to meet in St Marks on a regular basis. This relationship is actively nurtured by church and college staff alike and every two months the Newbold College Principal and Vice-Principal, together with the Newbold church Pastors Ian Sleeman and Patrick Johnson, meet with the two Parish church wardens. At this "College and Church Liason Committee" they discuss matters of mutual interest such as the scheduling of events so that they don't clash and practical arrangements like car parking and sharing of facilities. Furthermore the Rector, Rev Bill Meyer, occasionally takes assembly services at Newbold College and will in fact be taking part in the Graduation Service on Sunday 22 May.
Some months ago the Bracknell News ran a story on Newbold College student Conrad Vine, who, in the wake of the tsunami disaster was about to leave the country to serve as the acting Country Director for ADRA-Sri Lanka. The newspaper article attracted a lot of interest in the Bracknell and Binfield community and the local parish church asked if Conrad would speak to them before he left. Conrad went along with Pastor Ian Sleeman (who often preaches in the Parish churches), and obviously made a great impression as subsequently the Parish Council voted to give £5,000 to ADRA-UK. The money will be handed over this week and added to the other Ingathering monies that have been collected.
"Newbold has already passed its faith goal," said Pastor Sleeman in an interview this morning, "but this gift will effectively double that goal. We are very grateful for the help and kindness we have had from our Christian friends in this area. Equally they have said how grateful they are to us for providing a channel through which they can give funds to the places they are most needed."
Three members of the Newbold College churches are currently working for ADRA in areas affected by the tsunami: Conrad Vine, Kirsten Øster-Lundqvist, and Peter Kern.
FIRE DESTROYS HOME OF AUDREY BOYLE-ANDERSSON IN SWEDEN
We were saddened to hear the news this week that on Tuesday a house fire had completely destroyed the home of Swedish Union Executive Secretary Mrs Audrey Boyle-Andersson. Audrey is the daughter of Pastor Patrick and Mrs Rosemary Boyle and is married to Lars Eric Andersson. She is well-known to many Adventists here in her home country of England.
Eyewitness Per Bolling, manager of the Swedish Union Publishing Service said, "her house burnt down to the ground. There is nothing left except the chimney, which is pointing to the sky like a blackened finger. It was a very windy day, and it seems as if sparks from the furnace in the house (they heated the house with a furnace that burnt wood chips; a fairly common method of heating houses here) landed on the roof and started the fire. I do not understand how it could happen, because normally a roof is fireproof since it is tiled or covered with sheet iron (or aluminium). But this time, things have gone very wrong... She and her husband Lars have lost literally everything. All they have left is the cat. Clothes, photos, memories - all gone."
Audrey's mother, Mrs Rosemary Boyle, yesterday spoke of her shock on hearing the news. "We have stayed at the house, which is about two-and-a-half hours drive from Stockholm, many times. Audrey was actually away travelling at the time of the fire but Lars telephoned her and she returned immediately. Literally everything has been destroyed, though she had her laptop with her and she and Lars have already started the process of rebuilding their lives. Patrick and I give thanks to God that Audrey and Lars were not harmed by the fire. Things can be replaced but people cannot."
Your prayers for Audrey and Lars would be gratefully appreciated at this time. Messages of encouragement can be sent care of Pastor Patrick Boyle at: <boyler1@aol.com>.
ASNA RESPITE AND TRAINING WEEKEND IN KIDDERMINSTER - Sophia Nicholls
When I am asked "what would you say to anyone who hasn't attended an ASNA Respite and Training Weekend", I am sometimes at a loss as to what to reply. However delegates a last weekend's event came up with a number of different answers: "Come and see and then you won't stop coming!" "Come along and you'll be hooked." "Try one, even if you don't have a disability in the family". One delegate attending for the first time said, "The informality gives a relaxed atmosphere so there are no worries about 'behaviour'. There are lots of activities for everyone. Next year, I'd like to bring more of my family."
These sentiments reflect the feeling of all who attended the Fourth ASNA weekend which was held at the Pioneer Centre, Kidderminster. We were ushered into God's presence by the leadership of Pastor Alen, together with Chris Rogers and family. Chris's music and worship workshop was the highlight of the weekend for some of the children present. All of the children, no matter what their ability, took part in the workshop and also in the concert that followed in the evening.
A young delegate with limited use of her legs, who uses a wheelchair, attending for the first time was excited to be able to abseil for the first time and enjoy the "big bounce experience". She thanked God for the opportunity to make new friends and gain new experiences.
ASNA would like to thank Pastor Bernie and Mrs Karen Holford for their inspirational workshop on innovative prayers, Mrs Trudy Young for her consistent support of the ASNA weekends, and Mrs Deborah Harris-Ugbomah for her "Managing your finance" workshop. The weekend was also supported by a team of willing and flexible volunteers and coordinators.
Later in the year, ASNA will host its first "Carer's Weekend" which will provide an opportunity for worship, fellowship, and emotional and social support. For more information about the ASNA weekends or other events please contact: <asna@speical1.fsnet.co.uk>. Phone: 01491 833395.

TED PRAYER GUIDE. For the week commencing 17 April our prayer theme is ADVENTIST EDUCATION. A British newspaper recently carried an article opposing a suggestion to extend compulsory schooling by three years to the age of 19, and pointing out the effectiveness of promoting values in education. The point was made that in the Eighties, only 12% of the British people wanted to legalise cannabis, and, 70% thought that homosexual practice was wrong. After two generations had gone through "relentless propaganda", the numbers had shifted significantly. Support for legalisation of cannabis was up to 41%, and, the number regarding homosexual practice as wrong had fallen to 47%! What really caught my attention was the writer's next sentence. He remarked that if the young in schools can be insulated from the views and values of their parents, and subjected to current propaganda for three more impressionable years, then the change in values would be complete. Against that kind of tide, Advent! ist Education and schooling remain committed to supporting parents and promoting the values of the kingdom of God. Please pray for:
? God's help in making Adventist Education more available to the children and youth of the Church. ? A double portion of the Holy Spirit's guidance and influence on all staff and teachers in our schools. ? The children and youth in our schools that they may have an experience that, not only prepares them for usefulness in this world, but intentionally promotes citizenship of the world to come. [Orville Woolford, Education Director, Trans-European Division]
