Where in the world did we come up with these silly little personal pronoun sayings that some of us put on the bottom of our postings. Like, "/me ducks out of the room". Excuse me, when did "me" become a subject pronoun?

I have beginning EFL students who know the simple fact that "I" is a subject pronoun and "me" is an object pronoun.

Is this another example of Internet shorcuts changing our language? I already have students turn in papers with "ppl" written instead of "people." Must we perpetuate this?????? Especially since it tends to be the better-educated among us here at C/A who do this.

Personal gripe mode off.

the /me.... comes from IRC chat. It is an action command that would have caused whatever was written after the /me to be either printed in another color or italics etc. It represents a visual of the typers actions. Say I was the typer and I wanted the room to know I was leaving the keyboard for whatever reason. I would have typed /me leaves the room. What you would see is.....Amelia leaves the room.

So in a sense it has become a type of cyber speak.

/me waves bye bye

Thanks. I obviously was ignorant.

After I wrote this, I had a brain flash and thought that perhaps these were the folks trying to force everyone to use the KJV in church. They like the "methinks" of Early Modern English (Shakespeare is contemporary with KJV) and want to perpetuate this.

Anyway, thanks for the info. Now I'm not quite so ignorant!

Man, context is everything. Without context, things float in a meaningless vaccuum and there is no one to take note of them.

I just found out that Wallace and Gromit opens in HK this weekend. Though we probably won't go see it--wait until it's out on DVD. Along with Hitchhiker's guide.

Waffles are simply pancakes with traps for syrup.
