SARS isn't related to eating eggs. More like eating civit cats.

....forthcoming chicken SARS report : SARS poultry pandemic (severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)) originated in southern China, the mainland's chicken-farming hub. As a result, poulty exports have been particularly badly hit. Qu Shuli, of Beijing, used to sell at least 17,000 eggs every day before the SARS outbreak. "Then no one ever asked for them. It was like they were buried alive." ----------------------------- The recent tragic incident in the Netherlands, where chicken flu destroyed 15 million chickens and also turned out lethal for a veterinarian, who died from it. ................................... The H5N1 virus is a type of avian influenza virus. It is called that because the disease is primarily found in birds. Poultry - chicken, ducks, geese and other birds that are part of our diet - can be infected with the virus. Scientists believed it was impossible for humans to catch the Avian bird flu, but the flu virus is very good at adapting to infect new hosts. A small outbreak in Hong Kong in 1997 announced that the Avian Influenza A virus has made the necessary changes to infect humans. So far, the disease has been spread from infected poultry to humans and there does not seem to be a big threat of humans passing it on to other humans yet, but that can change if the virus changes. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7091155/ Free Bird Flu Video Michelle, can it be that SARS is the generic term for all and any Asian Poultry Flu virus strain?

No, SARS is a specific respiratory syndrome that has been linked to eating civit (SP? civet?) cats in southern China.
The H5N1 is the so-called "bird flu" that is running through Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam and has had flare-ups in China (HK) recently.
However, as far as I know, there is no relationship between SARS and H5N1. That said, I am nowhere near being an expert on the subject!

And is the Hong Kong Flu also in the category of producing same like symptons like SARS and H5N1 bird flu ?
lookhere, you Hong Kong living beloved sister of mine in the Faith.... I am very much against you getting any of such viruses. Please take precautions! Look at poultry meat there in Asia where you are as a bottle of Vodka. Lay-off-it!

Ha ha ha!
Since I am vegetarian, I don't eat chicken meat (though we spent part of the summer on a farm surrounded by poultry--fortunately, the H5N1 doesn't seem to be in NE China yet!). I do bake with eggs, though, which does give me some pause. I'm not sure what the risk is of using eggs . . .
Hong Kong flu, I don't know. H5N1 was here several years ago, as was SARS (after it jumped the border after PRC government tried to cover it up!). The flu that goes around the world every year originates in this area of the world.
Speaking of which, I need to get my 6 y/o to get his flu shot, as recommended for asthmatic patients . . . .

I just saw a bit on the evening national news about the flu pandemic of 1918. Researchers were able to determine that that flu was in fact a bird flu. Only this bird flu jumped right from the bird to humans without going through some other animal. Thus no one had immunity. They were able to kill that strain with the drug said to be the only one effective against todays bird flu; so the recommendation is for the government to get on the ball and make vaccines
