CHRISTIAN MUSICIANS MEET FOR SEMINAR
PODKOWA LE?NA, POLAND [ANR] More than 150 Adventist professional
musicians as well as Christian music lovers from all over Poland
gathered at the Seventh-day Adventist College of Theology and
Humanities (ACTH) in Podkowa Le?na from 9-11 September for lectures,
concerts, and special worship through music.
Pastor Miroslaw Karauda, music ministry director for the Polish
Adventist church, says, ?Music is a powerful medium for worshipping
God, sharing the gospel and [for] personal spiritual growth. Many
Adventist congregations in Poland are more than aware of this fact,
but were asking questions such as, how do we maximize the potential
of what music can do?... How [do we] get the music beyond Sabbath
worship services and into the ears and hearts of hungry, searching
souls??
Topics such as ?Bible, culture and Music?; ?Interpretation of Music?;
?Music in Worship?; ?Technology and Music?; ?Production and
Copyrights?; ?Events and Marketing? were addressed by pastor Miroslav
Pujic, music ministry director for the Adventist Church in the
Trans-European region; Ken Burton pianist and conductor of the award
winning London Adventist Chorale; Paul Lee president of AMA
(Adventist Musicians Association), publicity and marketing director
Trevor Johnson and professional music producer Fred Shone.
?For individuals, music becomes more meaningful when the form
emanates from the cultural context,? Pujic says. ?Then it can serve
as a convincer of the message and it helps to reach out and share a
renewed relationship with the Creator. Music can aid in the spreading
of faith, the sharing of the gospel and the persuasion of people to
follow Christ. Therefore music must be integrated and incorporated
into church ministries.?
Roman Chalupka, a pianist and the executive secretary of the
Adventist Church in Poland, reminded the participants that there was
a time when Polish Adventist choirs were actively recording and
traveling abroad such as the former group Dzwiek Adwentu (Advent
Sound) throughout the 1970s and that such achievement can happen
again. In his final speech, Karauda challenged participants to ?take
a more active roll in church music by starting new groups, striving
for quality, and taking the Gospel to the public.?
Already, musical groups such as Via Fides from the Central Warsaw
congregation show that with a little bit of work and a lot of Holy
Spirit much success can be achieved. ?It?s a matter of priorities,?
said Joanna Matusik, female vocalist with Via Fides. ?Even if you are
not musical, you can still participate,? added Via Fides photographer
Mike Wawruszak.
Other presently performing groups from Polish congregations are the
choir Ziemi Cieszyñskiej from Upper Silesia and the joint Podkowa
Le?na-Warsaw Central choirs, which last season toured throughout
Poland performing a contemporary version of Handel?s Messiah.
Participants said the weekend was worth it. Krzysztof Kubiak from
Gdansk commented, ?I learned about a whole new aspect to church
music; one that needs the leading of the Holy Spirit.? Dorota Bar
from Leksandrowa added, ?We should strive to be professional with the
music we make, especially the music we make for God.?

ADRA RESPONDS TO FLOODING IN PAKISTAN
PUNJAB, PAKISTAN ? In August, the Adventist Development and Relief
Agency (ADRA) distributed relief aid to flood survivors in the
province of Punjab in Pakistan.
At the request of the local government, ADRA distributed aid in
Layyah, one of the hardest hit areas. ADRA provided 700 families with
food and 165 families with tents. Each aid package includes such
items as flour, rice, sugar, salt, lentils, and tea. The tents can
accommodate up to six adults.
Priority in distribution was given first to women-headed households,
second to families headed by the elderly, and third to families
headed by a physically disabled person.
?Rehabilitation efforts are beginning in the region,? stated
Zorobabel Zuniga, country director for ADRA Pakistan, ?but relief aid
is still needed by families unable to start land preparation because
of losses incurred during the flood.?
The project, valued at $34,000, was funded by ADRA offices in the
United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Pakistan, as well as by
ADRA Trans-Europe and ADRA International.
ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and
disaster relief without regard to political or religious association,
age, or ethnicity. Additional information about ADRA can be found at

TED Prayer Guide for week 18 - 24 September 2005
ST ALBANS, ENGLAND [ANR] ? Hungary is still a secular country. While
having an increased interest toward religious experiences its people
have a decreasing affinity to any religious organization.
Our mission is to plant new churches which are able to meet these
special needs of the people. We have decided to start 20 new church
plants over a period of five years with most of them in territories
where there is not an Adventist presence.
We have challenges with our existing 113 churches. In the last five
years the membership in 57% of our churches has decreased. Our
challenge is to revitalize these churches, to sustain unity and
mission focus among the members, to create an open and supportive
atmosphere for newcomers.
Our mission statement is: Walking with Christ and waiting by working..
Prayer Requests:
1. Our 20 new church plants
2. That we can train and equip the majority of our church members to
carry out in a new, up-to-date way the gospel commission
3. The revitalization of the dying churches
