Memory Text: Ephesians 1:7 NKJV “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”

Sunday, October 9 The Chosen
Ephesians 1:4 NRSV “just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love.”
Ephesians 1:4 SDA BIBLE COMMENTARY Christ is the sphere in which the choosing can be made, for all spiritual life centers in Him. One coming to Christ is chosen to be saved, in the same way as one joining a choir is chosen to sing…God purposes to save all who choose to place their faith in Christ as their Redeemer.
1 Corinthians 2:7 NKJV “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden [wisdom] which God ordained before the ages for our glory,”
Ephesians 1:4-5 MKJV “4 according as He chose us in Him before [the] foundation of [the] world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,”
Ephesians 3:11 KJ21 “according to the eternal purpose which He hath purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
1 Peter 1:20 ASV “who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake,”
Revelation 13:8 ASV “And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him, [every one] whose name hath not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that hath been slain.”

Monday, October 10 Praise God for Adopting Us
Ephesians 1:4-6 God’s Word to the Nations “4 Before the creation of the world, he chose us through Christ to be holy and perfect in his presence. 5 Because of his love he had already decided to adopt us through Jesus Christ. He freely chose to do this 6 so that the kindness he had given us in his dear Son would be praised and given glory.”
Ephesians 1:5 SDA BIBLE COMMENTARY Far from being an angry God who requires appeasement, the Father is working through Christ to accomplish His purpose—man’s salvation.
Romans 8:15-16 God’s Word 15 “You haven’t received the spirit of slaves that leads you into fear again. Instead, you have received the spirit of God’s adopted children by which we call out, "Abba! Father! 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”
Galatians 3:26-29 ESV “26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.”
Galatians 4:5 KJ21 “to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”

Tuesday, October 11 Redemption in Christ
Ephesians 1:7-8 MKJV “7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, 8 which He caused to abound toward us in all wisdom and understanding.”
Ephesians 1:7 COMMENTARY BY ADAM CLARKE God has glorified his grace by giving us redemption by the blood of his Son, and this redemption consists in forgiving and delivering us from our sins; so then Christ's blood was the redemption price paid down for our salvation: and this was according to the riches of his grace.
Hebrews 9:22 MKJV “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

Wednesday, October 12 The Mystery
Ephesians 1:9-12 NKJV “9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth——in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.”
Ephesians 1:9 COMMENTARY BY BARNES [Mystery] means there some doctrine or fact which has been concealed, or which has not before been fully revealed, or which has been set forth only by figures and symbols. When the doctrine is made known, it may be as clear and plain as any other. Such was the doctrine that God meant to call the Gentiles, which was long concealed, at least in part, and which was not fully made known until the Saviour came.

Thursday, October 13 Jews and Gentiles
Ephesians 1:11-14 NKJV “11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him you also [trusted], after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”
Ephesians 1:14 PEOPLE’S NT COMMENTARY The "earnest" money was a small part of the purchase money given in hand to bind the bargain.
