LIFEdevelopmet TRAINING SPARKS A BOLD COMMITMENT

BELGRADE, SERBIA [ANR] - A commitment has been made to establish 136
small groups and 10 LIFEdevelopment centres in the South-East
European Union Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists (SEEUC).
Specialists from the Trans-European region of the church led a
LIFEdevelopment.info (LDi) Conference of 150 pastors and members from
the SEEUC in study, discussion and group activities.

Dr Miroslav Pujic, a specialist in evangelism to postmodern people,
and Janos Kovacs-Biro, the Small Group Ministries Director presented
the seminars over three days, from the 19 - 22 of January. They
focussed on the communication barriers between Christians and the
unchurched, the importance of understanding contemporary cultural
values and nurturing relationships. The LDi Discipleship path was
explained, and the group was shown practical methods of implementing
the planned LIFEdevelopment Groups and Centres.

"The power of living is incarnational and relational. Christianity
offers a relational repertoire of resources that attract people
today", Explains Dr Pujic. "This has to be the base of our mission if
we want to reach this particular generation."
Kovacs-Biro agrees; ?We wanted to expand the idea of relationships in
terms of connecting in home LIFEdevelopment groups. When people open
their house for seekers and start doing the work of a disciple of
Jesus Christ they will experience the joy of salvation. I praise God
for the good spirit, excitement and commitment of those who were
attending this seminar.?
Participants expressed their excitement for the LDi discipleship
concept and full commitment to the project. The leadership of the
church is giving full support by nurturing and coaching newly trained
group and centre leaders. Ten groups from ten different cities plan
to meet in new LIFEdevelopment facilities provided by the Seventh-day
Adventist Church. It is hoped that a café setting will create a
relaxed atmosphere, which will be more conducive to preparing
unchurched people to share experiences with those that live by
biblical values and principles.

The South-East European Union Conference has 10,000 members and more
than 200 organised churches.

NEWBOLD BUSINESS STUDIES - THE WAY FORWARD

NEWBOLD, ENGLAND [ANR] - "Would you like to experience a placement
with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), a marketing
company or another business in the competitive world market? Could
you see yourself jetting off to Sudan for a three-month internship,
overseeing and supporting a relief project? Your CV will catch an
employer's eye; your hard study will have the support of practical
experience and the world is your oyster! How can we develop
programmes at Newbold College that will support such objectives?"

This is what Newbold College?s Department of Business Studies brought
to the table at the beginning of the New Year. The ?Way Forward?
meeting, held on Sunday 15 January, hosted a focus group consisting
of academics and business people, including many Newbold alumni. Dr.
David Penner, the college Principal, as well as his entire senior
management team were present. According to participant Michael Parker
from King's College Hospital, "There was a natural mix of education,
business and members of the Seventh-day Adventist movement which was
fertile ground for new ways of thinking and working for Newbold
College."

Marinko Markek, Head of the Department of Business Studies, enthused
that "The meeting is the beginning of a redefining of the
Department's mission."

Four focus groups tackled issues concerning the ways in which the
department can best serve the needs of both the Church and
Seventh-Day Adventist young people. The role of Christian business
ethics vis-à-vis secular business 'morals' in education was also
debated. "The two are not always mutually exclusive," commented Dr
Ghalib Fahad, a Senior Lecturer at Middlesex Business School.

"One of the core strengths of Newbold is that it is a part of a
global network of Adventist institutions of learning, so a student
here really has a qualification of international reputation," said
Stephen Pilgrim, a consultant and senior lecturer in Marketing at
Middlesex University Business School (MUBS). "I like the possibility
of there being an Adventist University of Europe with Newbold being a
part of it."

"There has been a lot of very creative thinking; people are not
afraid to ask tough questions," said Bert Smit, Executive Director of
ADRA-UK. "I am looking forward to getting to the core to find answers
for young people to find employment within and outside the Church
other than in theology."

It is hoped that the meeting will initiate the development and
fostering of links between the department and the Adventist business
community in both the UK and across Europe. The department would like
to encourage all Adventist businessmen and women who are willing to
support business studies at Newbold to contact Marinko at:
<mmarkek@newbold.ac.uk> or on: 01344 407493.

All participants gave of their talents, skills, experience and time
voluntarily. Newbold College would like to express its deep
appreciation for the impressive support demonstrated in and after the
meeting.

A NEW PRINCIPAL FOR EKEBYHOLM SCHOOL

RIMBO, SWEDEN [ANR] - Yvonne Löfgren has been appointed as Principal
of Ekebyholm Seventh-Day Adventist School in Rimbo, Sweden. Yvonne
brings many years of teaching experience to the post, and has been
highly involved with the school for years as a member of the school
board and parent association.

Yvonne replaces Berit Lisle, who accepted a call to take up the role
of bursar of Newbold College in England. The school thrived under her
leadership, and her communication skills created a positive
atmosphere for both students and staff.

?We wish both Berit and Yvonne God?s richest blessings as they take
up their new appointments,? says Björn Ottesen, Chairman of Ekebyholm
School board and President of the Swedish Union.

Ekebyholm School is a Primary and Secondary school in Rimbo, Sweden
with 282 students.

?You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. Teach the
older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and
sound in faith, in love and in endurance.? Titus 2:1,2.
Prayer request: That whenever we speak about what is true, we do so
with love and respect for others.
