developed in anticipation of the nationwide movement to celebrate the
first-ever Ten Commandments Day on May 7, has gone to its second

** THE ANNUAL MINISTRY PROFESSIONAL GROWTH SEMINAR provides an

This year's seminar, "Here We Grow Again," will bring expert
examples of superior preaching style and delivery. It will be broadcast
live from the Sligo Adventist Church in Takoma Park, Maryland, on
Tuesday, March 21. Encourage your local pastors to send out invitations,
and then to open their church doors. Some pastors provide a light meal
before or after the seminar. Pastors who have used this tool, report
that the Adventist Church gains respect in the community by simply
sharing
.
Contact: 301-680-6508 or
www.MINSeminars@gc.adventist.org to
register. See the online brochure at
www.ministerialassociation.com.** NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP - LEVEL I - The Nonprofit Leadership
Certification Program, April 17-21 in Glendale, California, will be a
2-level program to offer current or prospective nonprofit staff
leadership training within their institutions. It will equip nonprofit
leaders with the practical skills and perspectives they need to operate
effectively by emphasizing the distinctive character of nonprofit
operations and the collaborative nature of modern problem-solving.
Contact:
http://www.plusline.org/eventdetail.php?id=129. ** TUTORING PROGRAMS - One in ten Adventist local churches provides
tutoring as a community service for children in their community. That is
less than half the 24% of congregations of all faiths who are involved
in tutoring and similar literacy programs for neighborhood children
across the U.S.
Contact:
www.creativeministry.org/article.php?id=410 to learn
more and to subscribe to the newsletter, Creative Pastor, which will
keep you up to date with statistics and Faith Communities Today (FACT)
research.
** 1,000 PRAYER WARRIORS by June is the goal for Atlantic Union
following their first Prayer Institute and Prayer Conference.
Contact:
www.nadadventist.org/link/category/18/ to find the
story in the online edition of the February Atlantic Union Gleaner.
Intercessory prayer for others and prayer for the outpouring of
the Holy Spirit in our church is greatly needed. Anyone from any
conference can volunteer as a prayer warrior at the North American
Division website.
Contact:
www.nadadventist.org and choose "Prayer" and
"Prayer Warriors" to enlist and join the nearly 250 prayer
warriors already enlisted in the war against Satan.
** NEW RESOURCE FOR PASTORS - Pacific Press has launched an electronic
newsletter called Maximum Ministry to help pastors maximize their church
ministry. Each issue brings you information on new resources, as well as
fresh ideas from pastors in the field. It will be sent out every other
month.
Contact:
MaximumMinistry@pacificpress.com or
http://maillist.pacificpress.com/maxmin/emailservice/maxminsub.php to
subscribe. Go to
www.pacificpress.com to read past issues in the
"Newsroom."
** Evangelistic Numbers Challenge - Blame dyslexia for the incorrect
estimate of the possible church membership by 2010, as published in last
week's Friday FAX.
Willowbrook, Maryland Pastor Tim Crosby, who is also a member of
the Review and Herald Book Committee, pointed out that even if our
baptisms per quarter for the next five years were gradually quintupled
over last quarter, we would still fall short of our 2010 goal of 1.5
million members. I trust his math. But there's more:
"The Adventist church has since its founding in 1863 grown at
the (phenomenal) rate of 80% per decade. What that means is that you can
take the current world membership figure and multiply it by 1.8 to get
the membership ten years from now. This suggests that our world
membership in 2015 should be around 27 million-an amazing growth rate,
praise God. Of course, this percentage cannot last forever; the rate
must decrease if history is any criterion. The growth rate of
Christianity itself since its founding is around 8% per decade.
"If the 80%-per-decade growth rate were to continue, then the
whole world would be Adventist by around the year 2150. (If you want
detailed figures I can supply them).
"Now let's apply this 80%-per-decade growth rate to the
figures for America given above. If we assume that the work in America
will grow as fast as the world at large, which is unlikely, then the
figure of 1,024,384 at the end of 2005 would grow to 1,843,891 by 2015.
So again the 1.5 million figure for 2010 is quite high. It assumes a
growth rate in America even higher than the traditional growth rate of
the church worldwide.
"But, hey, who knows what God has up His sleeve!"
Perhaps we need more prayer warriors and less math!
