Bread was baked in the Temple once every week.

This was the shewbread, and it was placed hot from the oven onto the table in the Holy Place in the Temple.

The table was spread with a beautiful blue cloth (Num.4:7)

Once, when David and his men passed through Nob, they were extremely hungry. Unfortunately there was nothing for them to eat except for the week-old showbread that had just been removed from the sanctuary (1 Sa.21:6). The priest allowed the men to take it to eat. Jesus referred to this event in Mark 2:26, noting that it was lawful only for the priests to eat this bread. He had no condemnation for David, though, because his dire need made the priests' act one of mercy.
