And just where do you think you are going? Do you think to get away with that? Having stirred up this tempest, do you think to quietly sneak away? I doubt me if that will happen!

Actually, Bravus, I have decided to pick up your glove. I shall start a new thread dealing with the exegesis of Gen. 1, in the Bible and Theology forum. Hope to see you there.

Bevin,
Do you believe God used evolution to create life on this planet? I think Bravus does....

I replied to your second time...

The evidence we actually have available is currently best explained by the theory of evolution. It appears that life as we know it evolved.
However there is no evidence in the earth that miracles did not happen. These miracles may have been local (e.g. Elijah's fire-from-heaven or the many recorded in the NT) or they may have been wide-spread (darkness over the land) or they may have been complex (Adam, Eve, and a Garden).
However we need to understand, as Bravus does, that a universal flood actually requires two miracles - making it happen and hiding all the evidence.
I don't believe an honest God would hide the evidence, replace it with a falsehood, and then require the beings He endowed with intelligence and senses to go completely against both.
God is not a liar. Recent-creationism makes Him out to be one.

Hiding all the evidence of the Genesis Flood? The only way it could be hidden is for everyone to be struck blind! Of course, some people choose to be blind.

Correct, and since the evidence is not there, and since people are not blind, the obvious conclusion is ..
there was no world-wide destroy-everything flood in around 2000BC.
There is plenty of evidence of local floods, and even evidence that the mediterraean and attached seas started as empty basins and filled in - but not at around 2000BC.
If you don't care about actually having a correct and coherent description, you can blindly ignore all the problems and pretend that such evidence is evidence of Noah's Flood.
This is what most short-age creationists do.

What we see now is
(a) plate tectonics causing huge movements of the continents, with
(b) fossils at the older pre-split levels being common from both sides of the movement, but at the higher levels being very different showing speciation on separate continents, and
(c) uplift and erosion mixed in
No-one has a plausible flood explanation, other than miracle, for the resulting patterns.
Furthermore, we also have magnetic patterns imprinted on the rocks, showing both continental drift and a wandering magnetic north pole.
No-one has a plausible flood explanation, other than miracle, for the resulting patterns.
Furthermore we have the impact craters to account for - the widely varying levels of erosion
Then, we have a variety of ways of dating the rocks, and no-one has an explanation for the dates that works with their origin in a recent flood
And then there is the Hawaian chain - easily explained in an old-age earth, but not showing signs of erosion during the Flood and no way of accounting for them after the Flood

oh yes, and then there is the distribution of the animals and the humans, and the variations in human DNA...

This is a picture of Goose Rock in eastern Oregon. Archeologists claim that it is 100 million yrs old. What is interesting about this formation is that about 3/4 of the way up are sea shells, fossils of sea shells and sea creatures in a layer of what is said to be sedimentation. Rather like a sea bed. So somewhere along the line ocean water covered this area and then some great upheaveal broke up the earth, the sea receaded and left behind a very beautiful fresh water river called the John Day.
