3ABN hopes to have yearly Ten Commandment specials. Certianly this is a good idea but I am not sure if these specials should be directed more toward outreach or "feeding the sheep".

This past Ten Commandment special seemed to focus a lot on the Fourth Commandment and specifically on why Saturday and not Sunday is the Sabbath. While that may be a way to reach truth-loveing Christians in another denomination, I doubt it is very effective in reaching the unchurched. It doesn't do much to "feed the sheep" since members of the Adventist church already believe Saturday is the Sabbath.

I was really impressed with Clifford Goldstien's little book called "A Pause for Peace" which is about how to make the Sabbath be a blessing. It is much more of a "feed the sheep" book but could also be used for outreach, especially among truth-loving Christians in other denominations.

Please let's keep this thread focused on the Ten Commandment Special prgramming and not go off topic into personalities at 3ABN.

Here is a link to the Ten Commandments Commission's website.

Ten Commandments Day

In response to recent court rulings against the public display of the Ten Commandments and the continual assault of a secular humanist agenda against traditional values, the Ten Commandments Commission has been created to restore and maintain the moral principles of the Judeo-Christian tradition in our nation and society.

The objectives of the Ten Commandments Commission are as follows:

  • To restore the supremacy of the tenants, precepts, and principles contained in the Ten Commandments.

  • To provide a global symbol that expresses our submission and commitment to the values found in the Ten Commandments.

  • To create a mechanism by which the Word of God can be restored in every aspect of society peacefully and without violation of the legal system.

  • To give opportunity for identification with millions who adhere to the supreme, universal law of God.

I think our intent, as a church, is much different from the Ten Commandment Commission's intent. Our intent is not political and the Commission's intent seems clearly political.

So should we, as a church, use this opportunity to combat those that are politically driven to legislate the Ten Commandments? Should we use this opportunity to reach the unchurched? Should we use this opportunity to "feed the sheep"? Should we use this opportunity to reach truth-loving Christians in other denominations?

If this 'Ten Commandment Day' catches on it really could be a prelude into the the National Sunday Law. So as long as these other protestant groups want to "celebrate" it I think we do need to have a counter-celebration. However I think we need to keep religious liberty in the forefront.

Shane, do not worry---I know that there were somethings said by other Sunday Keeping Churches earlier on---but try to talk to any of them or try to find anybody speaking about the subject on 'Ten Commandments Day' and they said absolutely nothing. I looked for the subject on different channels. Maybe other people found more than I did, but on Sky Angel on Sunday it seemed to be a moot subject. Personally, I wonder if they are laughing at us for going to so much trouble when they did either very little or nothing. They may speak about the ten commandments being taken out of public places, but it is really the ACLU who is really interested. Have you heard anyone trying to take the 'Ten Commandments' scroll off of the Supreme Courts BUIlding?. Actually, on Hope TV they replayed interviews with other Sabbath Keeping 'clerics' and it was just a repeat of past productions. ---, 3ABN made more of this than anyone else. If your church has books to spare, you might return them for the next 'Ten Commandments' Day. It may save donor's money if they are preserved for another day.

Well, it certainly didn't get off to a roaring start with the other denominations. That is for sure. I didn't care for the book because it seems arguementative to me. It certainly didn't seem like something to give to the unchurched.

Way of the Master uses the Ten Commandments to show people on the street their need for Christ. This is an awesome program.

They go out on the street and ask a person if they are a good person. Then they use the Ten Commandments to break the person down, sometimes to tears. Then they tell them about what Jesus did to save us.
