Red Deer teen has been missing for three days
By SARAH KENNEDY, CALGARY SUN
The mother of a missing 16-year-old said she’s beginning to fear the worst after three days have passed with no word from her daughter.
Choking back sobs, Suzanne Ashley said she has been wandering the streets and malls in Lacombe and Red Deer in search of her daughter Kiah, who suffers from severe epilepsy.
“I have absolutely no idea where she is,” she said.
“I’m completely lost.
“Every day that goes by I just worry more and more.”
Suzanne said it’s completely out of character for Kiah, a popular, straight-A student with the Parkview Adventist Academy in Lacombe, to be away this long without contacting her friends and family.
Kiah was last seen Sunday evening after a friend’s parent dropped her off in Red Deer where she was supposed to meet with Verla Matacio, dean of the dormitory at her school, said Suzanne.
“Kiah loves her, she calls her her second mom,” she said.
But Kiah never met with Matacio and no one has heard from her since.
Suzanne said things had been going great in her daughter’s life — the teen had gone over a month without having a seizure and the two of them had just returned home Saturday from a fabulous vacation.
“We took over 200 pictures...she’s a tremendous photographer,” said Suzanne.
“She was really excited about returning to school Tuesday and we were supposed to go back-to-school shopping for new jeans.”
Red Deer RCMP said they are actively looking for Kiah and are concerned that she didn’t have her medication with her when she left her home on Sunday.
Police say at this point in the investigation there is nothing to suggest foul play.
Suzanne said she feels hopeless and is desperate for any information that could lead her to her youngest child.
Anyone with information can call the RCMP at 403-341-2000.
