Last night my husband had a stroke.
He is in hospital and I am in and out helping care for him.
It has affected his right side. As of this time, the paralysis is mostly gone now, and a weakness remains. He says he feels like there is a boot on his foot all the time. He feels heavy on the right side from the top of his head to his foot.
Mobility is limited when walking and using his small muscles. He cannot write
If I was to do a specific prayer it would be for a speedy recovery.
God is good! It could have been much worse!
Thanks :)

Hi, Gorgeous!
You and your family will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers.
My prayer will be that whatever happens in your husband's recovery process that the Lord will give you and your husband the courage and strength to handle it.
Hang in there!

My daughter is a occupational therapy major and deals with people like your husband in her training. What is needed is training of the person to use a different part of his brain to relearn basic skills like eating and writing and walking. It is like a hard drive crash and all that data in that part of the drive is gone. Same for the human brain. If the memory of how to write was in the part of the brain that was damaged he or she must relearn the skill.
Prognosis is good for full recovery as long as another stoke does not occur.
Be of Good cheer Gail. Your husband will relearn all those skills with the help of a skilled occupational therapist.

Gail;
I am shocked. I am praying for his fast recovery and for you to have time stand still long enough for you to catch your breath.
Yes, God is good! It could have been worse. I thank God for sparing Russ his life and giving you courage.
Love to you both.

Gail I just now found out about this. I'm sorry to hear about Russ' stroke. I can't imagine how scary something like that is. I pray he gets well fast and comes home soon, and NO repeats EVER.
You did NOT deserve this at all, and neither did he. I'm so sorry.

Thank you so much, everyone! :)
I've just returned from the hospital where he is settled nicely. Before I left he was complaining of the numbness extending up to his shoulder and his arm was getting worse, so they were going to round up something to give him.
I was just telling someone of Russ' frustration of having a leg and arm that just won't do what he wants them to. Walking is labourous but we are getting him up for short distances.
For an artist, having an bum arm (his good hand, too) is not fun at all. He does have an advantage in that 1) he is in pretty good physical condition, and 2) he was once a fitness instructor who worked with stroke victims so he knows what exercises are helpful. I don't think he will stay down for long
There has not been any history of stroke in any of his family. It came on suddenly but because he is trained in first aid he was able to recognize it almost immediately and we acted quickly
Thanks again! We appreciate all your well wishes!

Howdy Gail I am sorry to hear about your husband. You are both in my prayers. I also want to remind you to make sure you take breaks/get help for any care you need to do, because you need to remain as healthy as possible to handle this extra load. Gail,
I do not know either of you, and I seldom get on Club Adventist, but something told me to get on and see what is happening. I am sorry about your husband, and I will pray for him and for you. Please be aware that God loves you and God can call anybody home at any time. I hope it is not his time, but every hair is numbered, and God only knows when our work on earth is done. I trust, as you must, that Gods will be done in each case. Bless you.

A lot of love for you and Russ being shown here. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. ~James 5:15, 16 We continue to keep you in our prayers.

Wow- if miracles could happen by merit of the number of prayers only, Russ would have no option but spring back home!
You guys are all awesome!
The Lord be praised!
Well, I just got up and am heading back. Will check in later

Gail, I have just recieved the e-mail about your husband. I am so sorry to hear about his stroke. I will add you to my prayer list and to our church prayer chain. God is Great and he can do great things if we trust and believe that he can. He has blessed me many times over. I to have felt Satan's anger this summer. But hold fast in the power of God and he will bring you through any trial. God Bless and keep you all.

Dear Gail, I know that, but for the grace of God, there go I. That may sound trite, but I would like you to think of the journey of Joseph, the one just one position under pharoah, when all his troubles were behind him he could say, "You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good". And there is also the reality that God is sovereign. No harm is beyond His ability to use it for our good. I know you are already aware of that, but it sometimes is good to roll those promises over in your mind, just to remind God of His promises for us.(like He needs it) Then watch for the way He chooses to handle it.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 NASB

Update!
Can we all Praise the Lord for His goodness to men?
I brought Russ home from the hospital yesterday. The neurologist told him that the CT scan showed that he has a history of several older strokes that went undetected until now. He got some exercises to do and a couple weeks vacation from work.
Every day there is much improvement! Today I took him out for a walk just to determine what happens. He has to concentrate on exactly what he is doing or else his right side will either drag or trip on things. He is getting better at walking backwards and his balance is very much improved. I am so encouraged!
Re: his hand: I saw that he had written in his day planner, and that is something he couldn't do yesterday. When he lifts this arm it is not firm but floppy.
There is a slight droop in his face around the lip and jaw area. He has to be careful for choking when he eats because his tongue was affected. His tongue feels like there is a hair on it, bothering it, only there is no hair.
But he is making an amazing comeback! I would like everyone to be encouraged that your prayers have been answered so early!
Thank you all!!!
