1. Carmelo Mercado, a pastor from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, has been elected
Vice President of the Lake Union Conference.
2. Kenneth H. Emmerson, a retired General Conference Treasurer, has
passed away in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Services are planned for
Thursday, February 12, 3:00 p.m. in Hendersonville, NC. He is the
father of Mrs. Bob (Anita) Folkenberg. His wife, Mrs. Dorothy Emmerson,
resides at 58 Ashley Hill Lane, Hendersonville, NC 28791.
3. The first two cards from the Sow 1 Billion Project were returned
from the Carolina Conference. Within days, we had our first 100
requests for Bible Studies from all over the Division.
4. Van Hurst, president of the Dakota Conference, reports that for the
first time in several years, their conference has shown a gain at the
end of the year. For next year they have budgeted on 95% of the past
year's tithe, and are committed to 24 evangelistic meetings during
2004.
5. Steve Gifford, president of the Texas Conference, reported the
largest number of baptisms for any conference in the Division for 2003.
Also, during 2003 the Texas Conference established 30 new churches.
6. Don Corkum, president of the Wisconsin Conference, announced plans
for the 70 churches of the Wisconsin Conference to conduct 140 series of
meetings during 2004. They have mailed 500,000 Sow 1 Billion tracts,
and are handing out an additional 100,000.
7. Ron Christman, executive secretary of the ASI organization, is
recovering from heart by-pass surgery.
8. Southern New England had a plan to have an evangelistic meeting in
every city in the conference. This contributed to the 784 baptisms for
2003, the highest total in recent memory for their conference.
