1. Elder Tom Lemon has accepted the call to be the new president of
the Minnesota Conference. He has been the Ministerial Director of the
Oregon Conference for the past several years. He was an assistant to
the president in the Rocky Mountain Conference prior to that. He also
has over 20 years of pastoral experience.
2. We are sad to report the passing of the mother and father of
Gerry and Howard Karst. Lydia Karst died on October 16, 2006, and Felix
Karst died on October 17, 2006, in Leduc, Alberta, Canada. A double
memorial service will be held on October 21, 2006, at the Leduc
Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that
donations may be made to the Hope Channel.
3. You may have been aware that over the past weeks I have been
seeing the doctors to learn what is going on with my vision. My
eyesight has been getting progressively worse over the past few months.
Marti and I visited the neurosurgeon. Together we looked at the films
from the MRI on October 13, that confirmed the tumor. It appears to the
doctor, without benefit of actually examining it, to be of a cystic
nature, likely of material that has been there since birth. Bottom line,
it will have to be removed. We discussed a possible craniotomy (opening
the skull). However, as he came to a different picture he found a route
for going into the area of the pituitary gland and to the tumor, above
and around it, by going through the mouth. It is highly unlikely that
this type of a tumor is malignant.
The surgery is planned for this coming Monday, October 23. The doctor
tells me that I may be able to return to work in a few weeks.
The NAD Year End Meeting will continue as scheduled.
This is what I know for now.
Thanks so much for all your support and prayers. It means a lot to
Marti and me.
